This class explores the extreme conditions that exist in nature in regards to temperatures and electricity. Instructor Carl Geden will teach students to use liquid Nitrogen in experiments that will demonstrate the effects of cold temperatures on ordinary objects such as a rubber ball, hot dog, flower and many more. Students will learn about expansion, contraction, and gas laws and create a cryogenic vacuum. We will make instant ice cream. In learning about electricity, AC and DC will be explained and demonstrated with simple circuit examples. Students will participate in experiments using static electricity. There will be a Jacobs’s ladder demonstration along with commercial plasma lamps.
